Cobblestone Cowl Neck Sweater

Done! See pattern, yarn, and needle details in September 3 post. It was fun to knit and is so soft and cuddly.

Saturday Sky September 29, 2007

This picture pretty much shows it all. Today we've had some blue skies, some gray, cloudy skies and at the time I took the picture it was raining. The temperature at 2 PM is 65 degrees on our thermometer-a far cry from the predicted high of 75.

Sock Blockers

I've never had sock blockers before, so I ordered these from Chappy's Fiber Arts and Crafts, as I saw in Cat Bordhi's new book, New Pathways for Sock Knitters. I love this book! The blockers are beautifully made of this nicely grained wood

with a large assortment of cutout designs and a choice of sizes. Payment was easy using Pay Pal and they were delivered in just a few days.

The socks look nice on the blockers and were nice when I took them off. I'm not sure I like the way the blockers stretch the ribbing, but I haven't worn the socks yet.

Surprise Jacket

This is my current work in progress. Elizabeth Zimmermann's Surprise Jacket for adults. I have made the baby version several times, but never the adult size. Even after having done it before, it is fascinating to see how a jacket evolves from this funny shaped piece of fabric. The yarn is 6 different colorways of Noro Kureyon which also adds an element of surprise to see how the colors develop. This is the shop model for this class I will be teaching at Amazing Threads ( ) in starting in November.

Bought this wonderful 100% silk yarn, Claudia, to make another shawl. I have more shawls than I can ever use, but lace shawl knitting is my favorite kind of knitting. I start knitting on a lace shawl and I just relax and am at peace with the world. (Usually-when there is a mistake it's not so peaceful.) I did start shawl from this yarn, but had to put it aside to power knit two sweaters for Amazing Threads and now I don't even remember what pattern I was using. Will have to look through my "Nest" around my knitting chair to find it.

Saturday Sky September 8, 2007

Saturday morning sky. Despite the clouds in the picture it was a mostly blue sky and was a beautiful day with temperature reaching low 70's. Later in the day, I couldn't resist taking this picture of the sun shining through the clouds.

Thrum Mittens

On the needles.

Inside out. Won't these be warm on a cold winter day? It's hard to imagine when the temperature is in the 90's and humidity almost 70%.
Pattern: On yarn label.
Yarn and roving: Fleece Artist in Nova Scotia. Both sold together in a skein. (Found at Amazing Threads: )
Needles: I'm still a double point needle fan, so was made on dps size 4.
When I get somebody to take some pictures I'll show how to put in the roving.

Cobblestone Cowl Neck Sweater

The Cobblestone Cowl Neck Sweater being blocked. It is actually square, but is distorted by the angle I took the picture. Believe me, when I downloaded the picture I did go to check the sweater for sure. As I knit it, I counted and marked the rows every 4 inches determined by the row gauge. That made it easier to measure because of the ribbing effect of the stitch pattern. That is also why I blocked it before putting in the sleeves.

Pattern: ShibuiKnits
Yarn: ShibuiKnits Baby Alpaca. A lucious, soft yarn, a delight to work with.
Needles: US Size 5
I did some things differently from the pattern. The body was knit in the round to the armholes and the sleeves were knit in the round. I did short row shoulder shaping which I had never done before but which I really like the way it looks. I used three-needle bind off for the shoulders.

Saturday Sky September 1, 2007

I forgot to take a sky picture today, so here is the best I could do. The sky was clear blue all day and perfect day for a wedding reception. This is my daughter and son in law at the reception for my son and daughter in law.
