New Pathways for Sock Knitters

Cat Bordhi has outdone herself with her new book! We've been making socks with basically two styles-one with a heel flap and one with an inserted heel. In this book, Cat shows how the increasing triangle (gusset) can be placed in any position on the sock and has sock patterns and designs to demonstrate. She suggests that you make a little learning baby sock for each of the eight construction methods. From there, you can go on to full size socks from the many patterns in the book. She has good illustrations to demonstrate stitch placement, direction of knitting and stitches for both double point needles and two circulars. A whole chapter is master numbers for socks of all sizes and gauges and another chapter for different heels, toes and cuffs. She even has a different cast on which looks intriguing. I can hardly wait to dive into the little socks-but I have two sweaters I'm trying to power knit for classes for Amazing Threads.

Embellished Felted Ruffled Bag

This is the bag before felting. After felting, it will be embellished with a flower from some glitzy yarn. I will be teaching this bag in a class at Amazing Threads www.amazing-threads.com in the fall and Bobbi, the shop owner will teach the embellishing.
Pattern: An Amazing Threads Pattern
Yarn: Brown Sheep Bulky
Needles: #11 24 inch circular
I did not wear the shawl I made to go with the dress I wore at the wedding as by the time the wedding came, I was OK with wearing sleevless clothes and the wedding was on a beautiful day and very casual. I did use the purse though.

Just Another Purse

A sideways view of the purse I made to use at my son's wedding on the beach in Maui. I found the kit in a yarn shop in Hannibal, Missouri. It is from Hourglass Creations, Inc and everything except the sewing thread for the purse lining was in the kit. The knitting is done with Hourglass Creation knitting ribbon which was the same fabric as the lining cut into narrow strips on size 17 needles and took very little time to knit a garter stitch rectangle. I think it took more time to sew the lining and attach the beads and the knitting.

The wedding is Saturday, so I will not be posting again for a little over a week. Hopefully, when all the traveling is done (this is the last trip) I can be a better blogger.

Adding Beads to Lace

When adding the beads to the Spring Garden Shawl, a different method was used. In my previous bead knitting, all the beads were strung on the yarn before knitting and then pulled up when needed. That would have been very tedious on this shawl because the majority of beads were added at the end. When the bead needed to be added on the next stitch, the bead was put on the crochet hook. The stitch is pulled through the bead and replaced on the left needle.

And the stitch is purled.
