Spring Garden Shawl

Our son is getting married next week in Hawaii and bought this dress for me and a matching shirt for my husband to wear for the wedding. Because I don't really like sleeveless, I made the shawl.

Pattern: Spring Garden from Knitter's Magazine Spring 2007. Pictures in the magazine don't do the shawl justice. I added one extra repeat of pattern.
Yarn: Joslyn's Fiber Farm
Needles: US #6
Beads: Size 8 Delicas

Saturday Sky July 28, 2007

Actually, I was very confused and took this picture on Friday, thinking it was Saturday. Well, Saturday sky looks the same-patchy fluffy clouds, warm, but humidity is down.

Cat or Dog?

You Are: 60% Dog, 40% Cat
You are a nice blend of cat and dog. You're playful but not too needy. And you're friendly but careful. And while you have your moody moments, you're too happy to stay upset for long.

Dale Triangular Shawl

The Dale Triangular Shawl from the Dale of Norway booklet, Lace Shawls being blocked. This is an ingenius blocking board rubber floor mats made in puzzle pieces which fit together (Thank you, QoE). You can see how the pieces can be fit together in any way to sort of fit the piece being blocked. I was unable to block this shawl which I made on the Delta Queen as my knee went out on the trip and I was not able to crawl around on the floor on my knees like I normally did, so with these pieces, I was able to stand at my kitchen island which is an excellent height. Because I used blocking wires, once it was pinned on, I could carry it to the living room floor, put in a few pins where there were gaps and it was done! Because it is rubber, I should be able to use several times-I might even get a second set-it's only $10 at Target.

Yarn: Dale of Norway Baby Uhl

Needles: Size 7

I've nearly always used 24 inch circular needles for all my knitting, sometimes squeezing on many stitches when doing lace. I overheard a fellow teacher telling her class she uses long needles for her lace knitting. I did try a longer needle and discovered I didn't have as much trouble with the yarn overs slipping over the adjoining stitch.

Babies and Bears Sweater

The original Babies and Bears Sweater. A fun sweater to knit because the construction is so unusual. You start at the sleeve cuff, increase up the arm; when you get to the body you increase at a greater frequency which gives it the shaping. Stop at middle front and back. Finish off the front edging, put the back stitches on a holder and make the second side which is then grafted down the back. Stitches are picked up or taken from holders for the edging and then the hood. The size of the sweater is determined by the size of the yarn, baby weight, sport, or worsted.
Pattern: Babies and Bears by Cottage Creations.
Yarn: Encore (self striping)
My daughter liked this sweater when her children were infants as it was so easy to put the arms into the large armholes.

Trekking Toe Up Sock

I finished these socks while on the Delta Queen. I found a toe-up sock pattern which looked like a traditional heel with a heel flap and gusset so I had to try it.
Yarn: Trekking (I love the colors.)
Needles: Size 1 1/2 (I found these at Needlework Unlimited.)
Pattern: Toe Up Sock by Jean Christensen. (A local Twin Cities knitter and teacher.) Pattern is available at Amazing Threads and The Yarnery.

Cruising Down the River

What could be better? 18 nights cruising on the Delta Queen with not much more to do than sit on the deck, knit. read, and watch the river go by! Except to eat! And the Discovery Guide had very informative lectures and tidbits along the way. And the entertainment was good. I'm having an awful time doing anything now that I'm home.
