The Fun Continues

The fun continues!

This is the first shipment from the Proverbial Yarn Club from A Verb for Keeping Warm. The pattern is by Cookie A-a departure from her sock patterns. This is an intriguing vest with a hoodie and the construction is very different. I'm not a vest person, but I might have to knit this for the fun construction.

This is the October shipment from Knitspot, by Anne Hanson. The extra is a package of gift tags.

This one was a surprise as I thought I had received all the shipments. I don't think I've been posting pictures of this club this year as I hadn't ordered the yarn option. I did order it for the next year, but not the pin.

 

I absolutely love this shawl from Romi's Shawl and Pin Club. The extra is Kookaburra laundry concentrate. I signed up for another year of this club, but only the pattern and yarn.

The Twisted Shawlette Club. The extra is a coffin shaped tin filled with Halloween shaped candies. I cut off the name of the shawl-it is Phantom Manor.

 

This is the fall shearing share from Juniper Moon Farm. This is a community supported agriculture farm, so the yields are distributed among the shareholders. I also did this for the spring shearing. The yarn is wool and I think it has some angora in it.

 

Knitspot for November.

 

This is a new club for me, although I previously belonged to their mini skein club. It is Space Cadet Interstellar Yarn Alliance and is just yarn. 

It was hard to make a choice of which of these yarns to get, so I got both of them. In the Three Irish Girls Yarnista club, you get to chose from two colorways. When I saw Sharon from TIG I mentioned I was in the club, but didn't know when or how to get out of it-not that I wanted to-and she just grinned and said "that's the point."

 

 

 

In Remembrance

Last week my daughter, Gloria, and I attended a Knit In at the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah in memory of Ann Swanson, one of the partners in the pattern company, Two Old Bags, formerly Wool You Order. I had sort of known Ann for many years and knit several of her patterns, the one most often A Dozen Christmas Stockings. She was on the same trip I took to Norway with Arnhild Hillesland and Carol Anderson on which I formed one of my favorite memories of her. Ann was afraid of heights, but when we stopped at this wonderful overlook of the fjords and mountains, Ann stood up on the restraining wall and raised her arms in praise.

 

The project for the Knit In was a pillow, which was never a published pattern, but just a chart and a few notes Ann had made. We didn't know what we would be knitting until we got there. These are not mine! I actually haven't started mine as it took more concentration than I had while there.

The day went so fast! We barely got there and it was time for the stash sale. Ann's husband had donated her stash for sale. When I walked into the room, Carol Anderson handed me this yarn, "you are the only one I know who would knit with this." Of course, it came home with me and has already started being Romi's new shawl club pattern, Firebird.

This also joined my stash. The money taken in from the sale went to Vesterheim Education Fund in memory of Ann.

We were given a tour of the textile storage area of the museum which was very interesting. Lunch was on our own, so of course I had to take Gloria there as she had heard so much about the meatballs and rumagrot (I have no idea how it is spelled)which is a Norwegian dessert which resembles creme brule.

I Have Been Knitting

Maybe I haven't been keeping up with my blog, but I have been knitting. Granted, it has been all for the shop for upcoming classes, but it's knitting.

 

This is the Ferrous Wrap made from Angora, Merino blend of yarn. Yummy. It is a huge wrap-I made the L-Shaped version (I would call it V-shaped) in the smallest size without the extensions. There is also a rectangular version so there are several version/size options. The lacy stitch is simple YO, P2tog which was a pain to do. I experimented with YO, K2tog, and K2tog, YO, but it just wasn't the same.

 

This is the Seamless Katarina by Julie Weisenberger. The construction of this sweater is exquisite! The yarn is Madeline Tosh DK and is wonderful to work with. I love this sweater and can't wait to get it back from the shop after I teach the class.

It is seamless, except for the two shoulder seams and the underarm seams.

The sleeves were provisionally cast on and when the sweater was finished, the stitches picked up and completed to be sure the length was correct. They were supposed to be bell shaped, but I didn't want that, so I just did the ribbing and garter stitch which matched the front bands.

Checking my past posts, I have missed posting many of my shawls for the year, I think. (Or else I just didn't label the posts, so forgive me if I'm repeating some I've already included.)

 

This is Sharktooth by Stephen West. I did not have enough yarn, so I modified the edging.

This is the second Haruni that I've made. I love this pattern and it is a fast knit. The color is questionable-quite striking.

This is another test knit from Aino in Finland. I love her patterns as she works the increases into the pattern so well you can hardly see them. I'm sorry that she is pretty much not designing right now as she is a new mother and is busy with 2 small children.The yarn in this one is Three Irish Girls McClellen Fingering, merino, bamboo and nylon. It turned into a beautiful shawl.

Another test knit for Aino. The is Golden Orchid. The yarn is Decandently Divine, 100% merino.
